Just one month after launching operations in Panama and Colombia, BWA Yachting adds Mexico and the Galapagos as its Latin America presence continues to grow.
Just one month after establishing BWA Yachting Latin America with operations in Panama and Colombia, BWA Yachting is expanding the region again with the launch of BWA Yachting Mexico and BWA Yachting Galapagos.
The two new operations extend BWA Yachting’s on-the-ground presence across some of Latin America’s most distinctive cruising grounds, bringing very different areas of expertise into the region: a captain-led operation covering Mexico’s Pacific coast and specialist local support for yachts navigating the highly regulated Galapagos archipelago.
The expansion reflects BWA Yachting’s approach to Latin America: building around experienced local teams who understand the realities of operating in their own destinations, while connecting them through one international organisation.
“Latin America cannot be approached as one market with one operational reality. Mexico, Panama, Colombia and the Galapagos each require very different local knowledge, relationships and experience. Our approach is to grow around strong local teams who already understand their destinations first-hand, while giving them the wider reach and resources of BWA Yachting. For our clients, that means keeping local knowledge at the heart of the operation while maintaining continuity as their itineraries move across the region.” Nikolaos Patsiokas, COO, BWA Yachting
Mexico: yacht operations from a captain’s perspective
BWA Yachting Mexico is led by Managing Partner Herberth Uribe, whose background as a yacht captain brings an additional perspective to the operation. For visiting captains, it means working with someone who understands their requirements not only from ashore, but from the yacht’s side too.
Based in La Paz, Baja California Sur, BWA Yachting Mexico provides support across La Paz, Cabo San Lucas, Loreto, Ensenada, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, Acapulco and Puerto Madero, Chiapas.
The team handles port formalities, national park permits, fuel, provisioning, logistics and yacht concierge services, while also acting as a local project manager when required, coordinating technical contractors and works during a yacht’s stay.
A particular focus is captain-to-captain itinerary planning, combining Herberth’s first-hand experience at sea with detailed knowledge of destinations, logistics and the operational realities of cruising the Mexican coast.
“As a captain, I understand that arriving in a destination is about much more than completing formalities. It is about having reliable information, clear communication and someone ashore who understands the yacht’s priorities and can anticipate what comes next. Mexico offers far more than its best-known ports, particularly along Baja California and the Sea of Cortez. Our role is to help captains explore those possibilities with an itinerary that works for the yacht, the guests and the crew”, said Capt. Herberth Uribe, Managing Partner, BWA Yachting Mexico.
Galapagos: specialist knowledge for a highly protected cruising ground
Further south, BWA Yachting Galapagos brings specialist yacht support to one of the world’s most distinctive and carefully protected cruising destinations.
The operation is led by Managing Partner Johnny Romero, a long-standing yacht agent in the Galapagos with extensive experience supporting visiting yachts throughout the archipelago.
Operating in the Galapagos requires detailed knowledge of local regulations, protected areas, permits and logistics. Every yacht, itinerary and guest programme is therefore approached individually, with the local team coordinating both the practical requirements of the operation and the experience of spending time in the islands.
Coverage extends throughout the archipelago, including Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, Academy Bay, Baltra and Puerto Villamil, as well as protected areas, with additional support available in Manta and Guayaquil on mainland Ecuador.
The team handles entry permits and formalities, provisioning, fuel, logistics and technical requirements, alongside tailored arrangements for owners, guests and crew. Local experiences, diving, land programmes and other activities can also be coordinated around the yacht’s itinerary.
“The Galapagos Islands are a truly exceptional cruising destination, but visiting the region requires careful planning and specialist local knowledge. Every yacht must comply with National Park regulations and follow an approved itinerary, making experienced support on the ground essential. Our team offers this by providing local expertise and reassurance. Whether it is coordinating permits and itineraries, assisting with last-minute requests and itinerary changes, or responding quickly to unexpected situations, we aim to make cruising in this extraordinary region as seamless and enjoyable as possible.” stated Johnny Romero, Managing Partner, BWA Yachting Galapagos.
Growing through local expertise
Mexico and the Galapagos join Panama and Colombia, which became the first BWA Yachting Latin America operations in September 2026.
The four locations bring together very different cruising environments and operational requirements. Mexico adds extensive Pacific-coast coverage, technical coordination and a captain’s operational perspective; the Galapagos brings specialist destination knowledge and experience navigating a protected cruising environment; while Panama and Colombia connect Caribbean cruising with Central and South America and onward access to the Pacific.
Rather than applying the same model everywhere, BWA Yachting is developing its Latin America presence around the expertise already established on the ground. For yachts moving through the region, this provides access to people who know each destination first-hand, while maintaining the continuity of working with BWA Yachting as the itinerary develops.
From Mexico and the Galapagos to Panama and Colombia, BWA Yachting Latin America continues to grow around the people who know these waters best.
